Message Driving at highers speeds, say above 40 mph; or at higher rpms, like above 3000; there is enough rational inertia in the engine to mask the symptoms caused by the timing. So it seems reasonable to suggest a lightweight flywheel would reduce those rotational forces thereby affecting the problem in the way you observed.
